What is a virtual private network?

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is an easy and effective way for you to protect your internet traffic and hide your identity online. Here are some features that come standard with every VPN plan we offer to maximize your security and privacy:
Military-Grade Encryption
Protecting your activities and data from being monitored, manipulated or recorded by others is a crucial element of any VPN service.  We do this by using OpenVPN for our connections in order to guarantee your data is protected with AES-256 encryption along with an SHA-256 hash authentication.
Hide your IP Address & Location
One of the primary ways websites and other online services track you is by monitoring your IP address and its location in the world.  Law Enforcement and others can also trace your IP address back to your Internet Service Provider in order to try and get additional information from them about you.  By connecting to our VPN, all of your internet traffic is routed through a secure tunnel to our servers making it look like it is originating from our server instead of your current location.
DNS Leak Protection
When using an anonymity or privacy service, it is extremely important that all traffic originating from your computer is routed through the anonymity network. If any traffic leaks outside of the secure connection to the network, any adversary monitoring your traffic will be able to log your activity.
Internet Kill Switch
When you want to ensure that the privacy and protection of your online traffic above all else, you can enable our optional Network Lock/Internet Kill Switch.  With this option enabled, our software will ensure that no traffic will leave your system unless you are securely connected to one of our VPN servers.  This comes in handy in situations where you may have an unreliable signal or internet connection which can cause your VPN connection to stop until you can restore access and enable the VPN connection again.

WHY should you use a vpn?

Get Around Blocked Websites
By using your IP address, websites and other online content can be blocked or restricted if you are located in certain areas, or even if you are located outside of certain areas of the world.  By selecting one our 40+ servers located all over the world, websites and internet services believe you are located in the city or country of your choosing.
Stream your Favorite Content
Watch all of your movies and shows on any device, regardless of your location or where it is coming from.  Our network has been optimized to provide you with the highest bandwidth possible for fast downloads and minimal buffering.
Use your Location to your Advantage
By hiding your location and IP address, Dark Cloud VPN makes it harder for sites and services to target, restrict, or advertise based on your location.  Use your ability to select from our many servers throughout the world to get the most out of your location and get the best deals, and options available.
Stop Throttling & Spying
By using our Military-Grade Encryption, network administrators, hackers, and governments will be unable to snoop on your connection to read your data, restrict certain traffic (like video streaming) or track which sites you visit.

When should you use a vpn?

When Connected to Public/Untrusted Networks
When you are away from your home, work or some other “trusted” network, you may often connect your mobile devices to a public/shared WiFi network.  This often occurs at places such as Starbucks, Airports, Public Buildings/Areas and other sources of internet connectivity.  Connecting to these networks often allows the provider or even worse, a hacker/bad actor to view and manipulate your unprotected connections.
When you want to Hide your Activity/Identity
There are times when you may be performing tasks or activities online in which you do not want your network traffic to be analyzed or monitored.  We’re not here to judge! On the contrary, we support your privacy and help you protect it with our various offerings.  Our strict “no logging” policy ensures your information is never kept or recorded.
When using Peer to Peer (P2P) Services
Some VPN providers do not allow for the uploading or downloading of Torrents and other P2P connections.  Downloading P2P content is monitored by most Internet Service Providers and can cause you to lose your internet service if they observe you downloading copyrighted content online.
When Shopping for the Best Deals
Many online vendors use your IP address to determine your current location to provide that may not always be in your best favor.  This includes showing higher prices or excluding you from certain deals offered to other locations.  Take control and make sure you’re getting the best deals and prices by selecting our servers in other areas of the country or the globe for the best prices available.
When Performing Advanced Gaming Practices
While we do not encourage people to partake in “unsportsmanlike conduct”, we have clients that use our VPN services while running gaming bots or performing other practices that are normally frowned upon by game providers.  It is also helpful for those providing professional gaming services for assisting other online players with gathering resources or leveling up.
When Streaming Online Media
Content providers such as Hulu, Netflix, YouTube and many others often restrict access to their content to only approved/authorized locations.  So if you live in Italy and would like to watch one of your favorite shows in the US, you would have been out of luck.

Streaming copyrighted content online from unofficial sources (such as plugins or services used by Kodi and other media players) are often monitored by your Internet Service Provider which could result in termination of your internet service.  Using our VPN services will allow you stream to your hearts desire with no restrictions or ability to be monitored.
